WA Notify is the official COVID-19 exposure-notifications software for Washington State and Department of Health (DOH). This app uses the Exposure Notifications Express platform from Apple and Google. It is configured by DOH. You are helping to slow down the spread of COVID-19 by enabling WA Notify.

What WA Notify does:

Devices with WA Notify can exchange random codes when they are in close proximity. If someone reports to their WA Notify app that they have tested positive for COVID-19, other recipients of their random codes are notified. The random code-receiving devices date stamp them and track their signal strength to allow the app to estimate the distance between the devices and how long they were there. COVID-19 may be exposed to users within 6 feet of the COVID positive person for at least 15 minutes.

Google and Apple's Exposure Notifications Framework run in the background, even when WA Notify is closed. The device battery will not be drained as fast with this app.

What WA Notify does to protect your privacy:

Washington State DOH is very concerned about your privacy. Apple and Google do not associate any location data with random codes sent by the devices. WA Notify does not need or want to know who or whereabouts you live. Your device can exchange random codes with another user if you're close enough.

The state law mandates that all COVID-19 positive individuals must submit their lab results to Washington State DOH. The app does not include this. Based on the information from testing laboratories, public health agencies (DOH) will follow-up with people who have tested positive for COVID-19. Public health agencies will confirm positive results and provide verification codes to app users as a service. You must share positive results with the app using this code. False reporting is prevented by this code. DOH hopes that app users feel secure in the fact that any COVID-19 exposure notification received through the app is legitimate.

You may have seen Exposure Notifications included in the latest Apple and Google operating systems. This function cannot be enabled until the WA Notify application has been installed. Apple and Google will remove the exposure notification tool tools from respective operating systems when the pandemic is over.
