Translations are available in parts of the Classic curriculum, although they stay outside the main view until requested. Their coverage depends on the language and unit. Anyone choosing Rosetta Stone for constant side-by-side translation will therefore find gaps in that approach.

The lesson changes when the microphone opens

A speaking activity begins with a native recording. TruAccent then listens to the reply and gives its result on the same screen. A difficult word can be heard and repeated without leaving the lesson, while speech precision and voice type remain adjustable in the settings.

Repeated rejection is not always caused by pronunciation. Background sound or a poorly positioned microphone can interfere with recognition. Before forcing the same answer many times, moving to a quieter room and checking the microphone may solve the problem.

Speaking into a phone is not practical everywhere. Recognition can be switched off on a bus or in a waiting room; the recording still plays and the activity moves ahead. Those lines have only been heard, not spoken, so they may need another attempt later.

An accepted TruAccent result should not be confused with a conversation test. It shows that the speech engine recognized the recording. It does not check whether the learner could choose the right words during an unscripted exchange or understand a stranger speaking at a natural pace.
